Keeping it Together

Community feels like it's slipping away these days. Everyone’s busy, distracted, tired. Online but not really present. Together, but not really connected.
But then… I see someone make something. A drawing. A beat. A meal. A song. A sketch on a napkin. A yoga lesson. And for a moment—everything slows down. The world around me starts making sense again.
Watching someone do their craft is my favourite form of meditation. It reminds me that there are people out there still paying attention. Still showing up. Still creating. Fighting their inner turmoil through whatever form of art they find sooths them.
That’s where I see community now—not in big crowds, but in quiet moments of creation. In friends sharing projects. In people lifting each other up. In the way artists find each other, even in a world that keeps pulling people apart.
I watched my friend build something the other day. Just quietly. No big deal. But it reminded me why I keep writing.
And here’s the truth I’ve come to believe:
Everyone is an artist.
Some just haven’t found their medium yet. But that's okay, why rush? Art is everywhere after all. A cigarette can be art if you look closely enough. A well planned lesson can be art. A spontaneous splash of colour. A coffee with a friend. Hell, even the way you walk can be an art form if you truly believe in it.
But.
There's on caveat in all of this. You HAVE TO believe in yourself. Always. There's no other way. It's easy to make your art when you stop the world and expect it to wait for you. What's difficult is trying to do your art in chaos. And today, we can't avoid chaos. But that's okay too, because. Well. Chaos can be fun too.
Art doesn’t have to be paintings or poetry. It doesn't have to be painting, making music, drawing, writing. It can be the way someone styles their outfit. The way someone listens. The way someone makes people laugh when it matters most.
Art is anything done with care. Community is anyone who sees that. And everyone can see community to a certain degree, they just need trust in themselves. Or a reminder. A reminder from someone who can see something in them. Someone who tells them:
"Hey man, I know this world is chaos. But you're doing your best to get rid of that chaos. In your own way. Thank you. Thank you for doing your part to set the world straight."
If you’re making something right now—even if no one sees it—thank you. You’re holding it together more than you know. More than me, that's for sure. You're working perfectly, your strive for perfection is what makes you an artist.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot. I'd watch the show Community. It can explain it better than I can for sure. I love that show.
Keep showing up.
Keep making stuff.
Keep holding it together.
